 | TREAD THE BOARDS NEED HELP | | | | | Finding a new scenery store ... | Posted by Andrew Spencer on 02/02/2012 @ 08:30 |
Tread the Boards is a long established amateur theatre group in Milton Keynes. A registered charity, it was founded in Newport Pagnell in 1986, making it one of the longest established theatre groups in Milton Keynes ...
a scene from robin hood at the chrysalis theatre in milton keynes
It now meets and rehearses in Woburn Sands and performs either at the Chrysalis Theatre, Willen, or at the Madcap Theatre, Wolverton. See www.tread-the-boards.org.uk for more about the group.
What is my interest in this group?
I joined in September last year and operated the sound for the last production "Sleeping Beauty" at the Chrysalis and will be doing the sound again for the next production "Improbable Fiction" by Alan Ayckbourn. The group is very open and integrates new members quickly. Being a new member myself, I have been impressed by how quickly new members have been cast in leading roles and given opportunities of responsibility back stage. The repertoire is broad and interesting.
So what is the problem? Why does Tread the Boards need help?
Whilst rehearsals happen in Woburn Sands the group is very much Milton Keynes wide (members come from all over the area). The current scenery and prop store is in Wolverton, next to the Tescos there. It is small - probably too small - but critically we lose it in June! We need to find a new one urgently to give time to relocate and to ensure continuity of productions.
So do you have the space we need?
We are looking for a lock up space, obviously dry, secure, lit etc. of about 300 to 500 sq ft. We need access late in the evening and at weekends. Late in the evening because we have to break out from theatres straight after the last performance, not the following morning, and the scenery etc. has to be secured that night. The space needs to be easily accessible to load and unload vans and in Milton Keynes or its immediate environs.
And it needs to be cheap, if not free! We are a registered charity and rely on membership fees (with gift aid) and profits from productions to survive and prosper. We would appreciate offers of help. If you can or you know someone you think can help us with a new lock up please do contact me on 01908 565460 or click here to send me an email.
In the meantime why not check us out?
Until next time ...
